Day and Night cycle
When a part of the earth faces the sun its facing daylight. When it rotates around so the other part of the earth faces the sun its facing night time. When the Northern hemisphere is having summer the North Pole is always facing the sun. This makes it daytime for continuously for several weeks, for the South Pole, it’s the other way around so when the Southern hemisphere faces winter it is continuously dark for a few weeks.
